A Germania Airlines Boeing 737 landed safetly Wednesday after a striking a flock of birds on take off. The Daily Mail says 200 starlings were ingested by the right engine of the aircraft as it took off from Dusseldorf enroute to Kosovo with 80 people on board.
Witness Juergen Kienast said the engine pitch immediately changed as the crew continued the takeoff. The Daily Mail said the aircraft circled for 45 minutes before landing uneventfully. Most of the birds were sucked into the engine while others dented the fuselage. There were no injuries reported among the 80 passengers and crew on board.
